Welcome to Danforth

The Danforth Educational Leadership Program, housed at the University of Washingon's Seattle campus, prepares experienced educators to become future leaders in the K-12 school system as principals and program administrators. This program was designed collaboratively by the University of Washington faculty and leaders in education from the Puget Sound area. The Danforth Program is committed to equity and excellence for all students, and is organized around our core working assumptions. Unique features of this five-quarter program include:

   ♦ One-year intensive program
   ♦ Cohort structure
   ♦ Minimum half-time intensive internship with mentor
      principals, completed concurrently with coursework
   ♦ Residential summer institute
   ♦ Integrated curriculum
   ♦ Weekly reflective seminars
   ♦ Ongoing formative program evaluations
   ♦ Special emphasis on a complete suite of instructional
      leadership topics
   ♦ Certificate only, or earn Master’s degree
      concurrently with the program.


Upon successful completion of the program, students are qualified to apply for the State of Washington
Residency Principal and/or Program Administrator’s Certificate. A new cohort of students is admitted
each year; the application deadline for the 2012-2013 academic year (Cohort 25) is February 1, 2012.
