♦ K-8 Certification, City University
♦ Master’s in Teaching, City University
♦ Additional Endorsement: 5-12 English/Language Arts
♦ Armstrong Atlantic State University, B.A. in English Literature

Professional Goal:
As a principal, I will be the foundation to sustain students against the winds of adversity and the steward to lead them into the twenty-first century as healthy, secure, and talented achievers. I will be a positive, motivational leader who supports teachers in their endeavors to use solid, multi-cultural curriculum and assessment practices that tap the multiple intelligences of our students. Although I did not come to the profession down the stereotypical path, the one I have walked has led me to know, unequivocally, that education is the key that unlocks the shackles of abuse, the manacles of societal oppression, and the iron gates of racial and educational disparities. As Nelson Mandela has said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

I believe, too, that each person within the school setting is uniquely gifted. When each person’s gifts can be recognized, supported and put to excellent use, all individuals - teachers, support staff and students alike - find greater purpose and satisfaction in the school setting. For the past 4 years I have been in the Auburn School district teaching 3rd and 4th grades. In 2007 I was part of the staff that opened a brand new elementary. For the past two years our 4th grade team has used a model where each teacher instructs the students in one of the core subjects (Reading, Math and Writing). This has allowed us to become very proficient in our subject area as well as making it easier for us to differentiate our instruction. I am a chairperson on our school Math and Science SIP committee as well as a member of our leadership advisory team.

    Professional Experience:
I have taught middle school mathematics for five years at Chinook Middle School in the Bellevue School District. My primary teaching assignment has been Integrated Math Topics 1, along with various math support classes. I worked with my colleagues to develop and implement the math support model to help all students achieve their potential in challenging mathematics coursework. My leadership experience includes two years as the math team leader for my building, as well as, being a member of my school’s Lenses on Learning team. Through my own professional development experiences, I have shared pertinent articles and facilitated discussions with my math department colleagues. For district-wide use, I planned lessons and created SMART notebooks for an introductory probability unit on the Integrated Math Topics 1 Curriculum Web. Collaborating with math teachers across my district, I have contributed to Bellevue School District’s common math curriculum and articulation between grades, especially the transition from 5th to 6th grade mathematics. I have helped develop district common assessments for Integrated Math Topics 1. While at Chinook Middle School, I have been an active participant at multi-disciplinary team meetings and was the 6th grade team leader. In my role as ASB Leadership co-advisor, I assisted students in planning and executing school-wide events including service projects and spirit days.

    Professional Goal:
To gain an educational leadership role, initially as a principal or assistant principal, and foster professional collaboration that leads to all students achieving their potential. I want to motivate and inspire my colleagues, students, parents, and school community to set high standards, and then go about working to achieve those goals.

    Professional Goal:
My career plan is to secure a position as an administrator at the elementary level in order to achieve my goal of providing each and every child in every classroom with a positive learning experience in a nurturing, supportive environment. To achieve this goal, children must be surrounded with competent, hard-working, caring and motivated teachers and staff who can communicate with students and parents. My belief is that for a child to become a lifelong learner, the student must develop a passion for learning. I am driven to be that leader who inspires the students, the teachers and the staff, the one who is committed to excellence, who has high expectations for my students, my faculty and myself and who leads by example every day.
