{"id":2218,"date":"2017-09-12T22:19:08","date_gmt":"2017-09-12T22:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/kellylab\/wordpress\/?p=2218"},"modified":"2019-03-05T16:30:20","modified_gmt":"2019-03-05T16:30:20","slug":"kidney-chip-system-wins-new-nih-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/kellylab\/kidney-chip-system-wins-new-nih-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"Kidney-chip system wins new NIH funding"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Institutes of Health today <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nih.gov\/news-events\/news-releases\/nih-awards-15-million-support-development-3-d-human-tissue-models\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced $15 million in funding<\/a><\/strong> for development of 3-D tissue models, among them a&nbsp;University of Washington effort to study the effects of drugs on kidney &#8220;tissue chips.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea is that small tissue chips might be a better way to test drugs&#8217; safety and toxicity&nbsp;than the conventional methods of cellular and animal research.
