Antiretroviral Therapy and HIV-1 Infectivity in Women

This research will evaluate the time course, magnitude, and durability of genital HIV-1 shedding among Kenyan women initiating and continuing antiretroviral therapy.  Correlates of genital HIV-1 shedding in women on antiretrovirals, including adherence and drug resistance, will be studied.  The impact of antiretroviral therapy on sexual risk behavior will be investigated.
