The aims of this study are to determine the incidence of primary EBV and primary HHV-8 infection during the first 2 years of life, to determine whether concurrent primary infant HIV infection modifies the control of primary EBV or primary HHV-8 replication, and to compare the kinetics of primary EBV and primary HHV-8 replication between HIV-uninfected infants, antiretroviral-naive HIV-infected infants, infants treated with antiretroviral therapy in a cohort of children born to Kenyan HIV-1 infected women.
