Hormonal Contraception and innate immunity in the female genital tract:

 a Prospective Study

Funding: CFAR Pilot Award P30AI027757
PI: Alison Roxby
Time Period: 01/09/13-01/08/14

This pilot study will measure and compare markers of vaginal innate immunity among women in the Mombasa Cohort who initiated contraception with Depo-Provera (DMPA). Using samples that were collected as part of ongoing cohort studies, we will use ELISA to look for changes in vaginal innate immunity with use of DMPA. We will then use additional data from this cohort to look at changes in vaginal innate immunity in the context of the vaginal microbiome.
