HIV/HSV-2 co-infected women are randomized to valacyclovir or placebo during pregnancy. The project will compare the rate of mother-to-child CMV transmission between study arms. Secondary aims are to evaluate the effect of valacyclovir on CMV viral load in blood, breast milk and the genital tract, and to examine the correlation between HIV, CMV, and HSV-2 replication in these tissues.
