When is a good time to study in Korea?
For both novice and heritage beginners, going to Korea after finishing the first two years at UW is recommended. This is when the student has gained a fair amount of knowledge in the language and is ready to fully take advantage of the system.
Who should I contact if I want to study abroad?
UW students have an opportunity to study the Korean language abroad and get UW credits. Currently two sister universities are available in Korea (Seoul): Seoul National University, and Yonsei University. How do I apply for UW credit when I complete my foreign study?
You will receive instructions from the International Programs and Exchanges Office. When requesting evaluation, Be sure to submit all the study materials, including the textbook and other materials used as well as any project and homework.
What kind of credit will I get for foreign study?
Depending on the hours and the content of the language courses you take in the sister universities, you will get credit for one of the following courses. Korean 145 satisfies the UW language requirement for graduation. The other two courses will count towards your VLPA credit.
- Korean 145 Foreign Study: Elementary Korean (1-15, max. 20)
For participants in study abroad programs who complete elementary language courses in approved programs in Korea. Evaluation by department/faculty required.- Korean 245 Foreign Study: Intermediate Korean (1-15, max. 20) VLPA
