The Seattle General Strike Project
features audio recordings and transcripts of fifteen interviews
with strike participants conducted by Rob Rosenthal in 1977.
Dave Beck can be heard in one of the interviews.
Later to serve as President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Beck was just
24 years old in 1919. He had recently arrived
in Seattle after being discharged from the Navy
and was part of a group of Teamsters that opposed the strike.
It was an avenue of direct action
that was tremendously all out of possibility their being able to control, was not in harmony with a solution
that could be built to function, and therefore, failed.
