Frank Turco news stand

The newspaper stand on 3rd Avenue and Pike Street is a tribute to Frank Turco, a radical in the 20th century labor movement. Frank Turco was an organizer in the Seattle General Strike and representative of the Metal Trades Union. He was also a member of the Blacksmith’s union and president of the Newsboys Local 621. In 1919 he opened his corner newsstand and maintained it for the next 47 years until his death in 1966. The old newsstand has been preserved by Ben Gant and others who have established a memorial to Frank Turco and Seattle Labor History. Photo courtesy Arkady DeRoest
