Navy Sailors holding Klan uniforms, possibly from 1923 chapter formed on the USS Tennessee. Photo: Whatcom County Historical Soc

Dozens of sailors sitting in uniform at a Klan rally holding their Klan robes. Washington's Klan made a special effort to recruit military personnel in the summer of 1923; Luther Powell gained special permission to create U.S. Navy Klan chapter 1 on the USS Tennessee that summer, and this photograph may be from that event.
