At this site, now part of Pike Place Market, in January 1918 a mob destroyed the presses of H.C. Piggott Printing Company In January 1918 the H.C. Piggott Printing Company, which printed the IWW newspaper the Industrial Worker, was destroyed by a mob of 2 civilians and 20 sailors. The mob admitted to being paid by the Chamber of Commerce and acting under the guise of Wilson’s Espionage Act which worked toward the suppression of radicals.
