Hematopathology Laboratory

Introduction

The Hematopathology Laboratory at the University of Washington offers a wide variety of testing to aid in the diagnosis of leukemias, lymphomas and other hematopoietic or immunological disorders. In addition, the laboratory is involved in research and development of diagnostic tests and their clinical application. The laboratory personnel also provide high quality teaching to medical technology students, medical students, residents, and fellows. Finally, the laboratory is committed to keeping community clinicians informed of new developments in this rapidly changing area of laboratory medicine.

Staff
The technical staff in the Clinical Hematopathology Laboratory are all certified medical technologists with years of clinical laboratory experience in hematology and hematopathology. This expertise is complemented by the director, Dr. Daniel E. Sabath and associate director, Dr. Brent L. Wood, who provide clinical interpretation of laboratory results and consult with individual clinicians.

Accreditation
Departmental laboratories are accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), thereby meeting all requirements of CLIA '88, and participate in formal proficiency programs of the CAP.

Laboratory Results
All results are mailed, transmitted to our remote on-site printers, or delivered by our courier depending on the testing performed and the client location. In most cases, the director of the laboratory will call and/or fax results to clinicians as soon as the testing is completed.
