Hematopathology Laboratory

Overview

Since its inception, the Clinical Hematopathology Laboratory at the University of Washington has steadily expanded its services in order to keep pace with the technological advances and growing importance of hematopoietic-immunologic testing for a wide variety of disease states. To achieve our goal of providing reliable, clinically useful tests, the laboratory devotes a portion of its resources to research and development, testing and evaluating new monoclonal antibodies, DNA probes and PCR primers, and methods.

This handbook represents the tests currently offered by the laboratory. New diagnostic tests will be offered periodically, and less satisfactory tests replaced. As future tests become available, information will be sent to the medical community. The first section of this handbook contains descriptions of all tests offered. The second section discusses disease states, appropriate tests to order and possible test results. The third section contains a brief overview of the approach to the diagnosis of hematopoietic malignancies with charts of antibodies currently being used. New antibodies are continuously being tested included in our panels as appropriate.

The services offered by the Hematopathology laboratory represent a commitment to quality and cost-effectiveness in a setting of ongoing research, development, and critical evaluation of diagnostic tests.
