ANTI-LIVER KIDNEY MICROSOME

CLINICAL UTILITY:

Antibodies to liver-kidney microsomes (LKM) stain the cytoplasm of renal proximal tubules and liver hepatocytes. Anti-LKM antibodies are associated with some forms of autoimmune liver disease. Subtyping the specific type of anti-LKM staining (e.g. LKM1, LKM2) is best done by other methods (e.g. Western Blot), and is not done by IFA in this laboratory.

METHOD DESCRIPTION:

Indirect Immunofluorescence

REFERENCE RANGE:

Negative.

SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS:

0.5 ml of serum is required (0.3 ml minimum).
