ANTI-PNEUMOCOCCAL CAPSULAR POLYSACCHARIDE


CLINICAL UTILITY:

Determination of a patient’s level of antibody to pneumococcal capsular polysaccharide post vaccination may aid the assessment of immunocompetence.

METHOD DESCRIPTION:

IgG antibodies to pneumococcal capsular polysaccharide (PCP) are measured using a plate enzyme immunoassay system.

REFERENCE RANGE:

<4.0 mg/L = Non protective; 4.0 – 10.0 mg/L = Indeterminate; >10.0 mg/L = Antibodies present.

SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS:

Serum. May be stored at 2-8°C for up to 48 hours prior to assay.
