What is Last Call?

For those in the hospitality industry, "last call" means closing time, late nights and ensuring crowds of customers are sent safely home. Now, restaurants, bars and clubs have the opportunity to change the way "last call" works. Through partnerships with local hospitality businesses, Last Call promotes the use of designated drivers and encourages customers to take taxis and leave their cars at home.

Why is Last Call needed?

Last Call is vital to Seattle food establishments and residents of the city. Although we all know it's a bad idea to drink and drive, rates of drunk driving injuries and arrests have not dropped in the past ten years. In fact, we recently surveyed 21- 34 year old drinkers in Seattle and nearly 20% said they'd driven within the past month after knowingly drinking too much. Since 21-34 year olds drink mostly in bars and restaurants, rather than at home or at friends' houses, they pose a hazard to themselves and others on the road after drinking. Alcohol-related crashes kill more people ages 21 - 34 than people of other ages.

How Does Last Call Work?

Participating bars and clubs receive free materials that remind customers to "grab a cab, bus or friend." As Last Call sponsors, bars and clubs give their designated driver customers free non-alcoholic drinks, and make sure patrons know about the neighborhood taxi stand.

Last Call has established a taxi stand in Fremont, in front of the PCC Natural Markets store on Evanston at 34th, which will operate Thursdays - Saturdays from 11:30 pm - 2:30 am. Taxis will service the stand regularly during those hours, making it easier to grab a cab home. Taxi stands in other neighborhoods will be coming soon.

Why should my bar sponsor Last Call?

For restaurants, bars and clubs, the benefits of participating in Last Call are clear. The program provides an additional safeguard against having a customer drive after drinking too much, potentially causing injuries or deaths.

As another advantage to joining, Last Call partners receive substantial promotional benefits including newspaper, radio and television advertising, billboards, bus ads, a Web site, earned media and guerilla marketing.

How does my bar become a Last Calls sponsor?

To become a sponsor, restaurants, clubs and bars simply make a small tax-deductible donation of $250. Last Call will deliver all materials to you and will conduct a brief 20-minute training with wait and bar staff.
