The U. District could use your help this Summer!
Many organizations in the University District are seeking volunteer assistance this summer to provide services for homeless youth and young adults. University District non-profits generally see a decrease in the number of volunteers available to work with their programs because of summer break. You can help -- check out opportunities at the ROOTS Young Adult Shelter, Teen Feed, University District Youth Center and the University Family YMCA.

*Watch "The Kids on the Ave" trailer for a documentary filmed for University Street Ministry in 1996 about homeless youth in the University District.

A BIG SUCCESS: Spring Celebration of Service & Leadership 2009

According to Ed Taylor, Undergraduate Academic Affairs Dean and Vice Provost, "I have attended many Spring Celebrations and I do believe this was among the very best." Many others shared Dr. Taylor's enthusiasm -- the showcase of service & leadership work that students are doing in the community was truly remarkable.

Thank You to all of the student gallery presenters for sharing their stories. Thank You to the community partners, staff, faculty, students and other mentors that served on feedback teams, creating a terrific environment of dialogue, reflection, resource-sharing, and inspiration in Mary Gates Hall. Thank You to the Dialogue Panelists for their contributions to a number of engaging conversations. Finally, Thank You to our donors and the Center for Experiential Learning (EXP) staff planning committee that made this event a possibility.
