On June 15, 2012 President Obama announced that his administration would grant a form of immigration protection known as the Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals (DACA) to some undocumented youth. The policy has the potential to change the lives of more than 40,000 youth in Washington State. The Carlson Civic Fellow will work closely with Northwest Immigrant Rights Project staff to arrange the organization’s responses to this announcement.
The Carlson Civic Fellow will be responsible for assisting in several areas of event/workshop planning, communication, volunteer coordination and data management. This position will also work closely with the development department in implementing strategic fundraising activities, and will participate in other development efforts.
Key responsibilities of the Carlson Civic Fellowship include:
- Help NWIRP staff provide consistent and timely communication to community members who want to donate workshop space, time, or other things to DREAMer Deferred Action efforts.
- Research and coordinate venues and required equipment for DREAMer Deferred Action events.
- Keep website up to date in both English and Spanish on DREAMer Deferred Action efforts, including workshops.
- Manage and maintain DREAMer Deferred Action related media and events content on NWIRP’s website; help manage NWIRP’s social media accounts including Facebook and Twitter. Organize updates around NWIRP’s other work and related stories for social media and website.
- Organize community volunteers for state-wide workshop events.
- Work with volunteer photographer when needed.
- Maintain communications log, event venue possibilities/detail list, timeline of events/deadlines and events calendar.
- Develop and update event materials as needed.
- Give regular updates to DREAMer Legal Advocates, Development Director, Development Associate and Intake/Outreach Coordinator
- Assist in coordinating preparation and mailing of written communication including mass e-mails, newsletters, appeals, and marketing support materials to targeted and segmented constituent group; design these materials in-house as appropriate.
- Help maintain data input on event attendees and donors in database, ensuring accurate and robust records. NWIRP is currently using eTapestry.
