Spring Celebration of Service and Leadership
On Tuesday, May 7, 2013, from 3:00pm - 5:30pm, we invite you to attend the Spring Celebration of Service and Leadership in the Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center on the University of Washington, Seattle campus.
The Spring Celebration of Service and Leadership is a yearly event that allows students to showcase their work and learning related to service and leadership experiences. Students across the UW Seattle campus will display and speak about their work. Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to engage these students to learn more about their projects and the experiences gained during the year.
The Spring Celebration is co-hosted by the Carlson Leadership & Public Service Center, Jumpstart, the Mary Gates Endowment for Students, and the Pipeline Project. While many students who are active in these programs participate in this event, students engaged in service and leadership across the campus are also invited to present their work.
This year the Spring Celebration will be held in the brand new Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center. We are pleased to offer the Spring Celebration in this new and vibrant new campus space, where we are able to showcase the work of students across three floors and in multiple rooms. The evening will begin with the Gallery of Student Projectswhere students will present their work during a poster session. Following the Gallery, we will honor our Edward E. Carlson Award Winner and then participants are invited to join a breakout session featuring presentations on a variety of service-focused themes.
This year marks the 10 year anniversary of the Jumpstart Program sending UW students to pre-school classrooms and developing children’s early literacy skills as well as the Pipeline Project’s 15th year of engaging UW students as tutors and mentors with Seattle Public Schools. We will also honor these programs during this event and the hundreds of students who have participated with these programs.

The Gallery of Student Projects is an opportunity available for ALL University of Washington students to present their service and leadership work through a poster presentation. This is an opportunity for students to tell their story to the community members, students, staff, faculty, alumni, academic and civic leaders attending the Spring Celebration of Service and Leadership.
Students, apply as a Poster Presenter, here's what is involved...
The purpose of a Poster Presentation is to: 1) initiate discussion, 2) attract attention, 3) give you something useful to point to as you discuss your work, 4) stand alone when you're not there to provide an explanation, and 5) let people know what you care about.
