AmeriCorps Students In Service PROGRAM TERMINATED FEBRUARY 29
Washington Campus Compact, the administrator of the Student in Service AmeriCorps (SIS) program, funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), terminated the SIS program effective Wednesday, February 29, 2012.
-
While most SIS members were performing valuable service to their communities, multiple times when the CNCS conducted random position description reviews, they questioned whether the service was allowable and not a prohibited activity.
-
Unfortunately, there were a few instances(none occuring the University of Washington) in which members were actually engaged in prohibited or unallowable activities per AmeriCorps and SIS guidelines.
-
These findings did not give CNCS confidence that 100% of SIS members were engaged in allowable activities.
-
Hours served after close of business Wednesday, February 29, 2012 will not count toward your SIS education award.
- SIS education awards have been prorated dependent upon the completeness of the member file and the allowable hours of service completed on/before Wednesday, February 29, 2012.
-
If member file is complete and there are no unallowable/prohibited activities then the prorated SIS education award will be available by April 2012.
-
You can continue serving in your community; however, your hours will not count toward your prorated SIS education award after Wednesday, February 29, 2012.
-
Active members who have served at least 15% of their service hours in allowable activities and passed in their completed exit paperwork will be eligible for a prorated award.
-
All active members with less than 15% of their hours served will be exited out of the SIS AmeriCorps program with no award and the member's term of service will not count against the four terms of AmeriCorps service a person is eligible to serve in a lifetime.
-
All active members must pass in all time logs and exist paperwork by March 15, 2012.
-
Turn in revised 1) position description form, 2) final time log, and 3) exit paperwork to your SIS campus coordinator, Matt Wojciakowski in 171 Mary Gates Hall, by March 15, 2012. Failure to do so may result in being exited without an education award.
-
Any hours served after Wednesday, February 29, 2012 will not count toward the prorated SIS education award (no exceptions).
-
If the campus coordinator needs additional documents from you to complete your member file you will need to submit those documents to them within the time period provided.
A more complete listing of the closeout procedure is available here. Exit paperwork is available here.
