Portraits of Change

The stories collected here reflect the growth and change that has occurred as a result of the ECML grant.  The testimonials of individual teachers attest to the multidimensional change that has happened both in the minds and the classrooms of participants.  At its outset, ECML had four key goals.  The 'Portraits of Change' reflect these goals, demonstrating that the grant was successful in attaining its objectives.

1.  IMPROVING CLASSROOM PRACTICES

  • ECML GOAL 1: To encourage K-6 mathematics leaders to rethink their beliefs about the nature of mathematics, the nature of learning mathematics, and the nature of teaching mathematics.

2.  DEEPENING OUR MATHEMATICAL THINKING

  • ECML GOAL 2:  To deepen K-6 mathematics leaders' understanding of mathematical concepts.

3.  DEVELOPING LEADERS

  • ECML GOAL 3: To prepare K-6 mathematics leaders to facilitate DMI sessions which involve approximately 2500 elementary school teachers in participating districts.

4. CREATING A SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY

  • ECML GOAL 4: To prepare K-6 mathematics leaders for the variety of roles needed to establish and sustain a community of mathematics learners within elementary schools.
