Introduction to Quantum Chemistry and Spectroscopy
(CHEM 455)

Quantum chemistry underlies many scientific and industrial applications such as designing new drugs in pharmaceutical research, studying photochemical reactions, developing new nano-scale materials, optimizing reaction products and yields, and quantum computing. CHEM 455 introduces and applies theories of quantum mechanics to the electronic structure of atoms and molecules and to molecular spectra.

Computational Chemistry
(CHEM 465/565)

CHEM 465/565 introduces students to the use of actual quantum chemistry software. The focus is on using and understanding modern computer technology and computational methods, such as force field, Hartree-Fock, and Density Functional Theory, in order for students to understand and perform fundamental chemical research. Students will have a unique opportunity to develop their own research ideas in a final term project.
