Dr. Paul Aoki
Director

Paul has been the Director of the Language Learning Center since 1984. He received his degrees in Linguistics (Ph.D. and M.A.) and Germanics (B.A.) from the University of Washington.

He is active in developing electronic media for language learning. He has worked with Microsoft, Apple Computer, the Department of Defense, and others to develop CD-ROMs and to digitized audio.

His wide range of interests is reflected in his membership in several professional organizations:

 

 

Marlin Eller
SA Tech Advisor

Marlin Eller was a programmer who was a manager and a software developer at Microsoft Corporation from 1982-1995, and he was development lead for GDI (subsystem of Windows 1.0) and also for Pen Windows. He was also a co-founder and the CEO of Sunhawk Digital Music LLC. He was also the chairman of the game development company called Reflexive Entertainment.

He received his Bachelor of Art in Mathematics from Whitman College in 1974. He then went on for his Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of Washington.

 

 

Bob Majors
Senior Computing Specialist

Bob manages a number of LLC IT areas.

Bob has a B.A. from The Evergreen State College primarily in Electronic Media Communications, and has completed a great deal of coursework working toward his M.Ed. in Educational Technology at the University of Washington.

 

 

Sherri Huber
Fiscal Specialist

Sherri started working at the Language Learning Center in 1995 and is responsible for everything from answering the phones to balancing the budgets. She enjoys the variety of responsibilities that her job provides her and most important, she enjoys the people she comes in contact with on a daily basis. She feels privileged to work in UW's beautiful environment and always enjoys her excursions across the campus grounds.

 

Larry LeSage
Media Lab Coordinator

Larry is responsible for the day to day operations of our classrooms and labs. His duties include the set-up, troubleshooting and repairing of analog and digital equipment, assisting our senior computing specialists, providing assistance to the instructors who use our labs, recording and dubbing of audio and video materials, and the training of our student employees.

After fifteen years as a watch repairman, Larry resumed his education and received a B.A. in Communications from the University of Washington in 1997.

Cecile Kummerer
Senior Computing Specialist

Cecile is a member of the LLC Desktop Support team that provides computer technical assistance to faculty and staff in the language departments. She has worked with faculty, staff, and students in the Division of Spanish & Portuguese Studies and the Division of French & Italian Studies for fifteen years. Cecile has a B.A. in French, Drama and Comparative Literature from Cedar Crest College in Pennsylvania.

John Tran
Senior Computing Specialist

John is computer support for Asian Languages and Literature, Germanics, Linguistics, Classics and LLC core staff, and LLC back end IT (servers, networks, etc.).


Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) Consultants

Audio-video operations (AV Ops)


Employment opportunities for UW students!

AV Ops staff provide audio and video language tapes which students use for on-site learning, and duplicate audio tapes for students to use outside of the LLC.
