Staff Associates
Staff Associates assist students and faculty through the LLC. They are generally
proficient in at least one of the languages for which they provide support.
They develop multimedia, computer-assisted language learning (CALL), video,
and audio programs which augment the curriculum in their language department.
They also maintain the computers and web resources dedicated to their department.
ASIAN LANGUAGES AND LITERATURE
Yu-Jung Chang
Yu-jung began working as a Staff Associate for the Asian Languages and Literature Dept this Autumn and has been working on several projects. Throughout the quarter, she assisted Indonesian and Urdu instructors incorporate SCOLA video materials into their language courses. Video clips of news programs were converted for web-based streaming so that registered students can access them via the LLC websites. Yu-jung also prepared audio materials for Chinese language courses at the beginning of the quarter and helped the recording of original audio material for Urdu language courses. Additionally, she has been involved in the restoration and troubleshooting of Japanese Moodle courses. |

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM
Sunao Fukunaga
Sunao is from Japan and she is now a graduate student in the Department of English. Before coming to Seattle, she worked for Fujitsu as a systems engineer, and she has taught English at the high school level in Japan. She is currently finishing up her MAT(ESOL) degree here at the University of Washington, hopefully, in spring 2007. She works with ESL instructors at the English Language Program on campus. She prepared new English audio series for students to access within the LLC labs and coordinated the copyright permission renewal for the continued use of over 30 titles in the LLC. She also digitized multiple audio and video materials for students' use in the labs. She offers lab trainings for instructors and orientations for students in order to introduce the services and facilities available at the LLC.

SLAVIC / AMERICAN ETHNIC STUDIES
Veronika Egorova
Veronika Egorova is continuing to work with a first and second-year Russian coordinator Valentina Zaitseva on an online Moodle course for Russian 100-250 levels. It is a collection of custom-designed resources that will supplement the textbook, Nachalo, such as grammar exercises, syllabi, handouts, and links to online movie clips. She has also been working on two particular major projects: Russian Rhythm and Question and Answer Words in Russian, for which she has done extensive recordings for original audio materials and captured and converted a number of video clips. Video clips were made into sequences united by particular topics and are will be used to illustrate the actual use of aforementioned grammatical constructions in colloquial Russian. This quarter Nika was also dealing with specific issues for Cyrillic character sets in Moodle.
