The Student Tech Fee Committee is in the midst of reviewing proposals for the 2010-11 school year. The Student Tech Fee Committee is composed of six undergraduate and three graduate students, along with four ex-officio representing University offices and the presidents of ASUW and GPSS, and it falls to them to weigh the pros and cons of proposals to use Student Tech Fee monies to fund technological improvements across campus.
The funds whose use the committee deliberates on are generated, as its name implies, from the tech fees paid by every student at the beginning of the quarter. This past year, as UW’s The Daily reported the Committee voted to make some software free for students.
