Chief of Laboratory Medicine

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine seeks a pathologist for the position of Chief of Laboratory Medicine. The candidate must be board certified in Clinical Pathology and eligible to be licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The academic appointment (Associate Professor or Professor) will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications. The Chief of Laboratory Medicine provides physician oversight of the laboratories of the Boston Medical Center.

The clinical laboratories are comprised of Clinical Chemistry which performs over 3 million tests annually, Clinical Microbiology with 600,000 tests annually, Clinical Hematology with 600,000 tests annually and an active Transfusion Medicine Service including a stem cell program. Each of the laboratories has a Medical Director who reports to the Chief of Laboratory Medicine. Laboratory Medicine also oversees the laboratories of several Community Health Centers.

The clinical laboratories will be relocating to new space within the next 5 years and the new Chief of Laboratory Medicine will have the opportunity to help develop a 21st century laboratory. A new comprehensive cancer center has opened within the past year and construction of a National Emerging Infectious Disease Laboratory has begun, creating excellent opportunities for collaborative and independent research in the clinical and basic science arenas. Additionally, the pathology faculty is actively involved in the education of pathology residents, medical students and graduate students.

Boston Medical Center is a private, not-for profit, 600 bed academic medical center located in Boston's historic South End created by the merger of the Boston City Hospital and the Boston University Hospital. The hospital is the primary teaching affiliate for Boston University School of Medicine. BMC provides a full spectrum of pediatric and adult services, from primary care medicine to advanced specialty care and has the largest 24 hour Level-1 trauma center in New England.

Inquires should be directed to Daniel G. Remick, M.D., Professor and Chair of Pathology, Boston University School of Medicine, 670 Albany Street room 407, Boston MA 02118, or email pathology@bmc.org
