Laboratory Co-Director, Endocrine and Automated Immunoassay Laboratories

The Division of Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology within the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, is seeking an individual to serve as co-director of the clinical Endocrine and Automated Immunoassay laboratories. The individual must hold a Ph.D., M.D., D.O., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent qualification. Applicants should be board certified or board eligible in Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Pathology, or Clinical Endocrinology or should possess board-equivalent qualifications in one or more of these fields.

The successful candidate will become a member of a dynamic and cutting edge clinical reference laboratory practice. The Endocrine laboratory is a large esoteric laboratory utilizing primarily liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry, manual and semi-automated immunoassays, and molecular tests to assist Mayo physicians and external clients in the diagnosis of endocrine diseases. The Automated Immunoassay laboratory is a high volume, high throughput laboratory focused primarily on hormone and tumor marker testing. Both laboratories also support intra- and extramural clinical trials, clinical research, and industry-collaborative activities.

Opportunities exist to establish an independent research program, but this is not the main focus of this position. The main duties of the successful candidate will involve (i) co-oversight and leadership of laboratory activities, (ii) initiation and supervision of test development activities, (iii) expert test consultation support for external physicians, Mayo physicians, and other clients, (iv) strategic planning of further laboratory development and growth, (v) academic and research activities, mainly in collaboration with basic scientists, clinicians, and industry, (vi) limited teaching of allied health staff, students, residents and fellows, and (vii) contributions to divisional, departmental, and institutional activities.

To complement the strengths of the incumbent co-directors and to assist in the strategic development of the Division of Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology, the successful candidate should have particular expertise in at least one of the following areas:

  • Conventional and molecular tumor marker development, validation, and reporting/interpretation (with particular emphasis on endocrine tumor markers),
  • Diabetes/metabolism/metabolic syndrome, or
  • Autoimmune endocrine diseases.

Curriculum vitae, a cover letter detailing training and laboratory experience, and names of three individuals who can provide letters of recommendation should be sent to:
