Clinical Pathologist
The Department of Pathology of Baystate Health System, the largest integrated delivery system in Western New England, is seeking a Clinical Pathologist with subspecialty expertise in Transfusion Medicine and a related specialty area (clinical, anatomic, molecular, or informatics) to join a faculty of 21 pathologists in a hybrid academic/private practice model.
The flagship of the system, Baystate Medical Center, is a 625 bed tertiary care teaching hospital that serves as the Western Campus of Tufts University School of Medicine, and supports 250+ residents and fellows. Pathology has 4 residents/year and fully accredited fellowships in Transfusion Medicine and Cytopathology. Pathologists provide services for a number of hospitals as well as for Baystate Reference Laboratories, one of the largest hospital-based laboratories in the country. Annual system-wide volume includes 25,000 units of blood, 10,000 blood products, 900 therapeutic procedures, 50,000 surgical specimens, 90,000 cytopathology specimens, and 5 million lab tests.
Candidates should have an interest in teaching and clinical research and have documented scholarly activity. Opportunities for basic research are available. Salary and academic rank will be determined by experience and accomplishments.
Springfield and the adjacent "Pioneer Valley" are located in Western Massachusetts with convenient access to coastal New England, the Berkshires, Vermont, and the metropolitan areas of Boston (90 minutes), Hartford (30 minutes), and New York City (2 hours). The region supports a rich network of academic institutions including the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Smith, Hampshire and Mount Holyoke Colleges.
