Procedure for Using Telephone Interpreters

In general, Madison Clinic should be provided an interpreter from HMC Interpretive Services. However, occasionally an interpreter is not available. Also, if one needs to call a patient at home one can call the telephone interpreters and then conference call with the patient.

Step 1

Obtain the dual headset from the triage station to facilitate simultaneous conversation between provider, patient, and interpreter. If the phone is equipped with a speaker, this may be adequate.

Step 2

The operator will ask you for:

  1. Access code: 47239
  2. Caller’s name
  3. Caller’s departmental budget code: 317511
  4. HMC location: Madison Clinic
  5. Patient name and hospital ID number
  6. Hospital name: HMC
  7. Language
