Past Collaborations

Aki Kurose Middle School:

Where Ya At? (WYA) was a year-long after school collaboration between the University of Washington and the Seattle YMCA that constituted a part of Mapping Youth Journeys. It was offered at the Seattle YMCA’s after-school community learning center at Aki Kurose Middle School during the 2009-2010 school year.

During the Where Ya At? classes offered at Aki Kurose, participating students:

•learned to use a web-based mapping software to
carry out simple mapping functions,
•mapped and discussed everyday geographies they
encounter in their community as they moved through
time and space in an ordinary day,
•developed skills for communicating their place-based
knowledge with civic actors and institutions, and with
youth in other places.
