We encourage marine biology students to incorporate programs that involve fieldwork, research, and hands-on learning into their regular coursework on campus. By participating in experiential learning opportunities, students develop their skill-sets as scientists, gain wider perspectives on the issues that are important to marine biologists and our planet’s health, and solidify their academic and future goals. Whether students live and study for a quarter in the Friday Harbor Labs, conduct research with faculty in labs on campus, work as interns for local agencies, or travel abroad, each extra-curricular experience dramatically affects and nourishes our students’ learning and prepares them for careers and graduate study in the marine sciences.
