| Investment casting Lesson/Tutorial | This casting has several steps: 1. a wax (or plastic) pattern is made of the final desired product, 2. the wax is dipped in a refractory slurry (wet mixture of sands able to withstand high temperatures) and allowed to harden into a mold, 3. the wax is melted out and the mold is baked, 4. molten metal is poured into the hard mold and when the metal is solidified the mold is broken off. |
