A Message from Kara

Again this week I have included a lot of academic deadlines, announcements, and reminders. Please read the academic section carefully and don’t miss that we have added a fourth summer quarter elective. I am available to answer questions about graduation or help with planning your 2018 – 2019 elective courses. Feel free to set-up a time to speak in-person or over the phone scheduling an advising appointment.

A big thank you to the MBAA team and C4C reps who worked all year to plan events, hit fundraising goals, and organized logistics for Challenge for Charity Sports Weekend. For those of you attending - safe travels, have a blast, share some of your photos, and represent Foster well!

Best,
Kara

Graduation Information

  • You must file to graduate if you are completing your degree this Spring 2018 quarter. The application is open now and closes on June 1, but there is no reason to wait!
  • Academic attire (cap and gown) is required for the Graduation Ceremony. You may either purchase your attire via the University website or from a Foster Alumni. If you elect to obtain your attire through an alum, please notify Jenny Forbes in the MBA Program Office.

Graduation is on Saturday, June 9 - here is an overview of the day’s activities:

  • The UW Graduation Ceremony will run from 1:30 – 4:30pm at Husky Stadium (doors open at 12:30pm). Tickets required for both students and guests. Sign-up for tickets from May 2 – 20 via the UW Ceremony website. Most MBA students skip this ceremony; however, the choice is yours.
  • The Foster Graduation Reception will be from 4 – 6pm in Paccar Hall. The reception will include hosted food and drink service. Heavy appetizers and 2 drink tickets. No entrance tickets needed and all are welcomed.
  • The Foster Graduation Ceremony runs from 7 – 9pm at Meany Hall on the UW campus (students MUST arrive by 6pm and doors open for guests at 6:15pm). Guests must have tickets. See below for more info:

Tickets for your guests to the Foster Graduation Ceremony:
Students can request 4 tickets via the Graduating Student Survey, but are guaranteed 3. Students do NOT need a ticket for themselves. Kids only need a ticket if they need their own seat. Once the deadline of 4/15 passes and all students have had an opportunity to fill out the survey (and we will be checking!) tickets will be distributed. After this has happened the MBAA will run a ticket exchange.

The Course Schematic is posted for the Autumn 2018 quarter so that you can start planning!

Update on Angel Investing from Jill Pimentel, Assistant Director, Buerk Center:
I know that many of you may be interested in the ENTRE 579 Angel Investing class and have heard some rumors about its future.

As of right now, we are searching for a new instructor to teach for the 2018-2019 year. We strongly hope that we can find one and be able to offer the course for next year.

In terms of timeline, I thank you in advance for your patience as it is a bit unclear when we’ll secure the course (pending finding a fit for the position). Please bid on your classes as you normally would. Expect future updates from me if the class will be offered – it could be as early as May or as late as August. If we cannot find an instructor in time, we will send out a message formally letting you all now.

I will keep you posted with future developments! Thank you for your understanding and I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT

Current opportunity:  PSBJ’s Women of Influence – Lytle Enterprises Scholarship - $7,500
In 2006, the Puget Sound Business Journal and Chuck and Karen Lytle joined forces to create the Puget Sound Business Journal’s Women of Influence-Lytle Enterprises Scholarship Fund. The Women of Influence Awards celebrate the leadership of women in the business world and in the larger community. To be a Woman of Influence, one must evidence not only leadership and achievement in business and in the community, but also be a mentor to other women. This scholarship puts money behind that message. This scholarship will enable a woman of potential to develop her leadership and business acumen in a local graduate school of business. In addition to providing financial support toward the scholarship winner’s education, the members of our stellar and prestigious Women of Influence advisory board will make themselves available to mentor her, providing her with a truly powerful launching pad.

Scholarship Amount: $7,500.00
Number of Awards: 3
Application Due Date: April 23, 2018
Two additional $1,000 awards will be provided to semi-finalists
