IT Resources

UW provides every student with various collaboration utilities, web storage spaces and software to familiarize students with commonly used corporate services. All of these resources are accessible via your UW Net ID. Below are some of the resources that are commonly used by Foster MBA’s:

Software/Internet Service Resources

Webmail: UW mail system is an IMAP based mail system. Most students either setup this email to forward an external account (gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc) or use client software like MS Outlook, Thunderbird to check their email. To check your email via a browser go here:

Windows Live.edu services: UW Windows Live offers the following services through Microsoft Live@Edu program:
  • Email and Calendaring via Outlook Live: 10 GB of storage and continued use of your @u.washington.edu or @uw.edu email address in an ad-free environment
  • Messenger: Live chat, voice, and video communication on your computer and mobile device
  • SkyDrive: Store, access, and share your files anywhere online with 25 GB of storage
  • Spaces: Online workspace for collaboration
  • Photos: Tag and share photos and make slideshows

Catalyst Share Spaces: Share spaces work similar to google docs. It provides a collaborative environment for students to share files. Student groups (quarterly core groups, case competitions groups etc), use such share space to share project files, homework files etc, rather than emailing them to-and-fro continuously. To access this utility or create your own share space, go here:

Catalyst WebQ: WebQ utility provides survey creation, launching and monitoring capabilities that can be deployed to students, faculty or anyone inside and outside the university. To access this utility go here:http://catalyst.washington.edu/web_tools/webq.html. Another on-line survey utility available to all Foster MBA students is Qualtrics. Qualtrics is a high end survey tool that provides many advance survey options and features. To access Qualtrics go here:https://washington.qualtrics.com/

LISTSERV: Listserv are electronic mailing list that comprises of a group of email address, defined by the creator of that listserv. Such mailing lists are frequently used by quarterly core groups, case competition groups to communicate. To create a listserv for your team go here: http://www.washington.edu/computing/mailman/

Network Drive (dante & webfiles): UW provides you with 2 network drives of 1.5GB storage space each. This storage space can be mapped to your computer as a network drive and used to store any files that you might want to. Such drives are commonly used to backup a student’s everyday MBA course work/files. To access your network storage space, log in here:

Microsoft provides a free data synchronization services for PC users. Go here to download that utility: http://www.microsoft.com/.

Preconfigured Foster MBA Listserv: To help students manage their e-mail and target messages to the appropriate audience, the MBA Program Office offers several listservs and e-mail accounts for various subsets of the MBA population. Software: In addition to all the above mentioned services, UW provides students with many utility and security software such as McAfee Antivirus Client, SSH Secure File Transfer, Stata etc. To access these utilities, go here: http://www.washington.edu/uware/list-opsys.html.

Hardware Resources

Renting a Laptop/Projector/Camera/Video Camera: If your laptop crashes, or you need a Projector/Camera/Video Camera, you can rent one for free from: http://www.css.washington.edu/STFEquipment. You have to reserve the equipment at least 24 hours in advance. The Foster MBA Program Office also carries projectors that can be borrowed for a few hours if needed.

 

Printing Services: The MBA Association provides students with B/W printing services at a subsidized printing rate of 5 c/page. The printer is housed in the MBA lounge. To print color copies, students can use the computer labs on the 4th floor of Balmer (color copies cost 25c/page).
