President - Carly Massey
Carly graduated from Williams College in Massachusetts with a B.A. in Psychology and English. Prior to pursuing an MBA, Carly worked for an online retail company based in Boston. There, she ran the customer service operations, and managed projects such as starting an offshore call center, implementing workforce management across a call center, and piloting a supplier management program. At Foster, she is studying a variety of topics, with the intention of pursuing operations and general management post-graduation. On campus, she is also holds a position on the Portfolio Inc board, will co-chair the 2012 Challenge for Charity Auction, and coordinates the student ambassador program. Outside the classroom and Paccar, she plays rugby and softball, and enjoys reading, running, and food.

Treasurer - Sherry Gardella

Sherry completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Washington and has lived in Seattle for the last 10 years. Prior to returning to the UW for her MBA she lived in Paris for 6 months and worked for five years at a school photography company, first as the marketing manager and then developing the newly established yearbook division. Sherry has a marketing background and plans to continue honing her marketing skills during grad school. In her free time she also likes to travel, dance, read (something other than a textbook), and workout.

VP of Communications - Karen Appel

Karen Appel graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in New London Connecticut June 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.  She served two years as an Engineering Officer in Training on the USCGC MELLON whose home port is Seattle Washington.  Her primary duty was as the Damage Control Assistant and Repair Division Officer.  Karen then served three years at Maritime Safety and Security Team 91101 based out of Seattle Washington.  Her primary duty was as the Logistics Department Head.  Karen is currently studying finance and accounting at University of Washington's Foster School of  Business.  Upon completing her MBA, Karen will return to work for the Coast Guard.

VP of Community Outreach - Laura McCurry
Laura received a BA in Business Administration from the University of Washington. Prior to returning to UW to pursue the MBA Laura lived in Quito, Ecuador for five years. In Ecuador Laura worked with various fair trade organizations and companies, including a small cocoa exporter and chocolate producer where she held the role of general manager. In the MBA program Laura is focusing on both finance and marketing. At Foster Laura is also the treasurer of the Challenge for Charity, in the Board Fellows program and a Leadership Fellow. Off campus she enjoys salsa dancing, reading and watching movies.

VP of Speakers - Mary Schlapoff

Originally from Minnesota, Mary Schlaphoff earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 2004, majoring in Political Science and German.  During this time, she lived her dream of residing overseas by spending her junior year as an exchange student at the University of Koblenz-Landau in southwestern Germany.  After a short period as an optometric technician in Eugene, Oregon, in 2006 she moved to Washington, D.C., where she spent four years working for the federal government in foreign affairs. She is now pursuing her interests in entrepreneurship and marketing at the Foster School of Business, and intends to make Seattle her home after graduation in 2012.

VP of Alumni Affairs - Sara Buzak

Prior to the Foster MBA, Sara Buzak worked for a start-up non-profit, the Mentee Educational Foundations.  As the marketing coordinator, she managed the design of the website to reflect the organization's educational goals and to facilitate interest and donations.  She has taught science and math to high school and college students.  Sara earned her Backelor's degree in chemistry from Tufts University and her Master's degree in chemistry from the University of Washington.  What at Foster, Sara is pursuing her BA with an emphasis in marketing and business development with the goal of working in a marketing strategy or product mangagement role.

VP of International Student Relations - Yuan Uccello

Yuan Ucello grew up in China and moved to Seattle in 2005.  Before purusing an MBA at the Foster School of Business, Yuan worked as a Loan Serving Team Lead at Bank of America.  Prior to her role at Bank of America, she worked in an international educaiton consulting firm in Beijing, China.  She has a Bachelor of Arts in Education of Chinese Language fom Tianjin Normal Unversity.  Her personal interests include traveling, badminton, and hiking.

Evening Representative - Danielle Johanneck
Danielle was raised on beautiful Orcas Island here in the Pacific Northwest, but moved to San Diego, CA in order to pursue an undergraduate education in psychology and business administration at the University of San Diego. Her background is primarily operations and accounting oriented, but she is looking to migrate into the corporate social responsibility arena. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, golfing, and spending time with her family.  Danielle is passionate about getting the Evening MBA students more involved in WiB and looks forward to planning some fantastic events!

Evening Representative - Tera Shimada

Tera, born and raised in Seattle, received her Bachelors in Science in Molecular & Cellular Biology from the University of Washington.  Following tenure in the medical field, she discovered that she was on the wrong side of research.  She has since returned to her alma mater to obtain her MBA in Marketing with a focus in market research.  Her current work involves marrying her analytical skills with her entrepreneurial aptitude to grow her family’s wine business at the Sixth Avenue Wine Seller.  When she is not studying nor planning a social function, she enjoys outdoors sports, competitive running, and the local music scene.
