In many cases, plants use growth in situations where animals use motility, such as in seeking favorable living conditions. Hormones are at the heart of plant growth and play a vital role in integrating cues from the environment and developmental programs. Using a diverse set of tools to dissect early Arabidopsis development, we are uncovering the molecular details of how hormones modulate photomorphogenesis (light-directed development). Ultimately, these findings can be used to build a complete, dynamic model of plant growth.
