The Ford Foundation Fellowship Program, offered through the National Academy of Sciences, seeks to increase faculty diversity at US colleges and universities. Fellowships are made at the predoctoral, dissertation, and postdoctoral levels to students who demonstrate academic excellence, a commitment to pluralism, and a strong interest in teaching and research.

The program awards approximately 60 predoctoral fellowships annually. These fellowships provide three years of support for individuals engaged in graduate study leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) degree. The award also pays expenses to at least one of the Conference of Ford Fellows and affords access to a Ford Fellow Regional Liaison, a network of former Ford Fellows who have volunteered to provide mentoring and support to current fellows.

Predoctoral fellowships are awarded in a national competition administered by the National Research Council (NRC) of the National Academies on behalf of the Ford Foundation. The awards are made to individuals who, in the judgment of the review panels, have demonstrated superior academic achievement, are committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level, show promise of future achievement as scholars and teachers, and are well prepared to use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.

For more information about the Program, see http://sites.nationalacademies.org/cs/groups/pgasite/documents/webpage/p... and http://sites.nationalacademies.org/PGA/FordFellowships/PGA_048208.
