Diversity

The MCB program is committed to recruiting and supporting students of diverse backgrounds.  Several resources are available for students:

UW Diversity:  Resources from the UW Vice-Provost for Diversity

SACNAS: MCB is pleased to support the UW SACNAS Chapter (Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Latinos and Native Americans in Science).  This award-winning group meets monthly to network and socialize.  The group participates in outreach efforts, including mentoring disadvantaged high school students interested in the sciences.

GO-MAP: As a unit of the UW Graduate School, the Graduate Opportunities and Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP), is committed to serving the needs of students of color and students from other underrepresented groups, while simultaneously fostering an educational and social environment in which all students can learn and develop through experiences rich in cultural, ethnic, and racial diversity.

EIP: The University of Washington's Early Identification Program for Graduate and Professional Studies encourages and assists undergraduates from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds to enter graduate school.

National Name Exchange: The National Name Exchange is a consortium of fifty-five nationally-known universities which annually collect and exchange the names of their talented but underrepresented ethnic minority students.  Student participants can now indicate whether they are interested in receiving information about graduate school, summer research and internship programs, or both.
