I'm studying how the bacterial pathogen Helicobacter pylori, the cause of ulcers and gastric cancer, adapts to infect new hosts. I use genome sequencing and creation and testing of isogenic mutant strains to identify bacterial genetic changes that allow H. pylori to infect mice, a non-natural host for this bacterium.
