Dr. McElrath's laboratory seeks to identify the components of immunity that are important in preventing and controlling HIV-1 infection. The studies encompass a broad range of translational research investigations in persons who experience unusual control of HIV-1. A central theme is to understand better the role of HIV-1-specfic memory T cells in protecting against mucosal HIV-1 transmission and optimal strategies to do this by vaccination. The current research projects of Dr. McElrath are listed below. Click on each project to view a report of the project and some relevant pictures and publications. Each list of publications is not necessarily a complete list. However, the lists give the most recent publications that pertain to the research project.
