My research is focused on clinically important persistent and latent viral infections. I direct a basic science virology laboratory at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and also serve as Head of the the University of Washington Virology Division and the Molecular Virology Laboratory. The basic virology laboratory focuses on DNA-editing proteins such as zinc finger nucleases and homing endonucleases as potential treatments for latent and persistent viral infections. The Molecular Virology Laboratory focuses on cutting-edge diagnostics for those viruses posing the greatest threat to human health.
