Research

Research Summary:

My research is focused on clinically important persistent and latent viral infections. I direct a basic science virology laboratory at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and also the University of Washington Diagnostic Molecular Virology Laboratory. The basic virology laboratory focuses on DNA-editing proteins such as zinc finger nucleases and homing endonucleases as potential treatments for latent and persistent viral infections. The diagnostic molecular virology laboratory focuses on cutting-edge diagnostics for those viruses posing the greatest threat to human health.
