The following projects focus on Methanococcus maripaludis, a model species of methanogenic Archaea. Approaches and techniques include genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, genomics, and systems biology:
1. Novel aspects of the methanogenic pathway and its connection to energy conservation
2. Generation of hydrogen gas using hydrogenase and nitrogenase
3. Nitrogen fixation and its regulation by novel mechanisms in Archaea
4. Molecular mechanisms of regulation by nutritional conditions, with a focus on nitrogen, hydrogen, and phosphate
5. Systems biology of methanogenesis
