Our research investigates how HIV is transmitted from one person to another and how the HIV infection results in progression to AIDS.  We utilize the monkey models (SIV infection) for most of these studies and collaborate with investigators in Cape Town South Africa for studies of HIV exposed infants.  The long term goal of these studies is to inform efforts to develop vaccines to protect people from acquiring and becoming sick from HIV infection.
