My research focus is on ERK5 MAPK regulation of adult neurogenesis in rodents. We have a conditional ERK5 KO mouse model for which to study the potentially negative affect that knocking out ERK5 could have on adult neurogenesis. Adult neurogenesis occurs, under normal physiological conditions, along 2 regions in the adult mammalian brain, the sub-granular zone of the dentate gyrus and the sub-ventricular zone along the lateral ventricles. Insight into the molecular mechanisms regulating this process could have implications for learning and memory as well as olfaction.
