Avoid toxic mentors

A recent article in Nature provides some advice on characteristics to avoid in a mentor. Charles Wood describes two “toxic” mentoring styles, Executive and Competitive, that can put too much pressure on lab members. This can make students miserable, and even encourage scientific misconduct, in an effort to live up to the mentor’s unrealistic expectations. Check it out as you decide on your next rotations!
