The MCDM program is a professional program that focuses on applied research. Faculty are teachers first, researchers second.
Senior Lecturer Kathy Gill has made the study of the blogosphere a priority, specifically in the areas of citizen journalism and politics. She regularly speaks on the subject to business, professional and academic groups.
MCDM student Suzanne Pietre has prepared a grant proposal for the program and the department to build a database that allows web users to customize a look into media consolidation. Suzanne worked with Senior Lecturer Kathy Gill and Assistant Professor Gina Neff on the project.
Senior Lecturer Kathy Gill
was part of panel presentation at NCA in November 2006
on how to integrate podcasting into the classroom. She
offered audio-recordings as an alternative to a traditional
research paper to undergrad students Spring Quarter
in COM 300, Introduction to New Media.
In August 2007, she organized a panel on technology and education for
Gnomedex that featured a COM300 student discussing podcasting and an MCDM
student reporting on challenges facing academic publishing.
