About the Project
Who is sponsoring it?
The Men's Check-Up is a project conducted by the University of Washington School of Social Work in collaboration with the University of Minnesota. This study is funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
What's unique about the project?
The check-up consisted of an assessment and feedback session, using motivational interviewing clinical skills. It was brief (2 sessions), free, voluntary, and by telephone with non-judgmental staff. Men were invited to participate anonymously or confidentially. The entire project took approximately six phone calls over a period of six weeks. Components of the project included referring participants and ineligible or un-interested callers to domestic violence and substance abuse treatment resources in their communities.
