MCH Program Stipends

The following awards are based on availability of funds. All applications are reviewed by faculty.
Practicum | Thesis | Travel | Dissertation

MCH Practicum Stipend

Supports students as they complete their practica. Faculty will consider the following selection criteria: (1) practica with Title V or other MCH-focused agency, (2) practica addresses issues relevant to underserved populations, special needs populations, or rural communities, (3) local/domestic practica, and (4) project need (e.g. travel).

Eligibility: current UW MCH students
Application Deadline: extended to end-of-day Friday, May 25, 2018
Award Amount: $1,500 for uncompensated practica, $500 for compensated practica (e.g. GSEP)

Apply: Email the following information and materials to the MCH Director - Daniel Enquobahrie at danenq@uw.edu:

  • cover letter requesting consideration
  • a copy of the completed practicum prerequisite form and learning contract signed by the site supervisor and faculty supervisor
  • compliant status with the Health Sciences Immunization Program
  • approval of the project from the School of Public Health Manager for Experiential Learning (this can be in the form of a forwarded email)

MCH Thesis Stipend

Supports research-related expenses such as statistical software or subject incentives for primary data collection.

Eligibility: Current UW MCH students
Application Deadline: None, applications accepted year-round
Award Amount: Up to $250

  • cover letter requesting consideration for the award, goals for the thesis, as well as a budget and justification
  • thesis proposal approved by committee chair
  • committee chair's endorsement of award application
  • a list of all committee members
  • transcript of MPH coursework

MCH Travel Stipend

Supports students attendance at conference (registration, travel, lodging, poster). Before applying, please check with your faculty advisor to find out if your expenses can be covered by the project. If your advisor does not have funds, follow the application instructions below.

Eligibility: Current UW MCH students who will present research work at a conference (we do not cover membership)
Application Deadline: applications accepted throughout the year
Award Amount: Up to $500

Apply: Email the following information to the MCH Director - Daniel Enquobahrie at danenq@uw.edu:

  • Name and date of conference
  • Purpose of attendance (present poster/research, accept an award)
  • Brief (2-3 sentence) description of research/award

MCH Dissertation Stipend

Supports dissertation-related expenses such as statistical computing packages or subject incentives for primary data collection.

Eligibility: PhD students in Epidemiology or Health Services whose research focuses on MCH-related topics in the United States. Priority given to studies of potential benefit to vulnerable or high-risk groups.
Application Deadline: applications accepted throughout the year
Award Amount: Up to $600, depending on availability of funds
