Minimum requirements to pass the clerkship

The list below are the minimum requirements to pass. Achieving all of these will not guarantee success, but failure to achieve them will guarantee an incomplete or failing grade for the clerkship.

Professionalism

Demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Scholarship or Educational attitudes

Clinical Skills

The minimum requirement for passing is the Reporter level in the P/RIME evaluation system. In addition, in order to evaluate your skills you must be present for the clerkship. See our absence policy for details.

Patient Log

Use E*Value to track the number of patients you see with the following 12 core problems using our online patient log:

  1. Chest pain
  2. Dyspnea
  3. GI bleed
  4. Abdominal pain
  5. Altered mental status
  6. Preventive care
  7. Fever
  8. Hypertension
  9. Diabetes
  10. Electrolyte disorder
  11. Kidney failure
  12. Joint or back pain

Mini-CEX

The course has one Mini-CEX evaluations on dyspnea. Please complete and hand in, either on the web or by fax(206-221-3559) before the final exam or you will receive an incomplete for the clerkship and be ineligible for honors regardless of your other grades.

Evaluation

We use the E*Value data managment system. You will evaluate your interns, residents and attendings, and they, in turn, will evaluate you.

Final Exam

The final exam is a standardized subject test from the NBME (National Board of Medical Examiners) Please see the final exam page for more details on the test. Although they are not required, we strongly encourage you to do the practice patient simulations at least 3-4 weeks before the test so you are comfortable with the format.
